Make your house a home for the future.

This office has been accented with some of the basic home automation features. The lighting accents leave an elegant look to an accented wall. Looks great! Now imagine that all of the lights in this office including the accents can be controlled via a computer in a separate office and that every light in the entire building can be turned off using a switch panel located at the front door. Today we no longer have to imagine; all that and much more is possible using Home/Office Automation technology.
The system is based on what is called "Power Line Carrier" technology and is most commonly referred to as "X-10". The system communicates by sending a 3 Volt 12 Khz signal over the existing wiring in your home, these signals do not affect the operation of other electrical devices or appliances in the home. There is little need for new wiring in most homes. Most systems are as simple as replacing some of your wall switches with the appropriate X-10 devices and plugging in some of your appliances to X-10 wall modules.
There is rarely anything lost as a home automation system is expanded. A very simple system might start as a way to control the outdoor light on a detached garage without having to run new wiring. Then expand to control other outdoor lights, then an interface could be added and programmed to control the lights in response to motion detectors or signals from the alarm system.
The X-10 technology has been around for over a decade. It is a mature technology with a device available for nearly every imaginable application. There are a number of sources and a variety of manufacturers with varying degrees of quality and different features for the X-10 components.
Home automation enables many routine or repetitive actions to be performed at the touch of a single button. Imagine being able to turn off every appliance, light and even set back your air conditioning in your home when you get ready to leave for the day. We could take this example a step further and set the system to shut down for the workday when a signal is received from the garage door being closed or the alarm being set during the period of time and days of the week that you would normally be leaving for the day. Convenience, tailored to your lifestyle and your needs.
Home automation can make your home safer by giving you control of the home in ways you never imagined. Anything electrical can be controlled from any touch tone phone or cell phone so you can control your home from anywhere in the world. Your home can be programmed to look differently each day of the week when you are gone. In addition your home can be programmed to react to signals from motion detectors or a number of other sensors such as driveway loops or photoelectric beams. Imagine simply opening the garage door with your door opener and all the appropriate outdoor and indoor lights and/or appliances come on too.
